Budget 2011 Impacts Auto Industry
Playing a partypooper to the country's growing clout in the luxury car segment, a new provision in the Budget could well lead to a hefty hike, over Rs 8 lakh or more, in the prices of entryl evel cars of the companies like BMW, Audi and Mercedes.

In what appears to be a bolt from the blue for the luxury carmakers, mainly from the German stable, a change in definition of completely knocked down (CKD) car is threatening to derail the softer import duty regime.

Volvo S60 Debuts in India at 27 Lakh

Volvo India today made its foray into the premium sedan segment with the launch of the S60. The S60 according to Paul de Voijs, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India, is a naughty sedan and will create the same impact as the earlier launched SUV the XC60.

The S60 is launched with both the petrol and the diesel variants. The two diesel variants namely the D5 Kinetic and Summum are priced at 27 and 32 lakhs respectively while the petrol variant the T6 Summum is priced at Rs 34 Lakhs

The Indian Sedan market is not overpopulated like the hatchbacks one. Making matters worse, the Pareto’s principle is quite evident in the market because some sedans are doing exceptionally well whereas others are performing very average.

But unlike the hatchback market, where the Alto dominates by miles, the sedan market has no outright winner. Having said that, the sedan market (just like the hatchback market) is also dominated by MSIL. The DZire holds the number 1 position in the sedan market, closely followed by Tata’s Indigo.
