We experienced some torque steer in the front-drive car when tromping on the gas with the steering wheel turned, but the all-wheel-drive model escaped that fate. The 6-speed's ratios are well chosen, but aggressive driving can lead to unpredictable downshifts—on several occasions we attempted passes which required one, then another kickdown. It appears that Lincoln is attempting to appeal to a more performance-oriented driver. While they haven't hit the ideal marriage of ride quality and handling (like, say BMW), they've managed to ditch the floaty feeling traditionally associated with many Lincolns of the past. Ergonomics are thoughtfully laid out, even if reaching for controls on a few occasions led us to accidentally slide the shifter to the manual mode position.
