First Drive: Lincoln Unveils the 2009 MKS Flagship To Polite Applause

Ford Lincoln MKS Test Review | Photos | Video | Page 2 of 5 | Next>>
09 Model Lincoln MKS Road Test The Lincoln MKS is built on a version of the platform that underpins the Ford Taurus and Taurus X, the Mercury Sable, and the new Ford Flex wagon. It comes in only one model, with a starting price of $38,465, well under most of the competition from Cadillac (the STS) and Lexus (the GS 350 and GS 430). The MKS is a full-size luxury car, rated at just under 106 cubic feet of interior volume with an 18.4 cubic-foot trunk, with very generous interior dimensions for four occupants, especially headroom and legroom, even with the dual-panel sunroof installed.

The MKS has moved into the 21st Century, for sure, with new standard features like the Sync system, a new type of keyless entry system with a touch key on the outside and a Start button inside, a capless fuel system, HID headlamps, reverse sensing system and TPMS, dual air, a very complete AM/FM/CD/AUX sound system, Sirius satellite radio, power tilt and telescope column, Bridge of Weir Scottish leather 12-way power seats, heated and cooled front and heated rear, and all the usual luxury-car power equipment.

2009 Hyundai Genesis Sedan: First Drive

Genesis Test Drive | Photos | Video | Page 5 of 6 | Next>>
2009 Hyundai Genesis Road Test In this pair of tests the Genesis V-6 and V-8 proved themselves almost identical in feel to the 530i, the heavier V-8 approaching the sensations of a 550i. With the Genesis wheelbase at a class-leading 115.6 inches (overall length at 195.9 inches is roughly five inches longer than any competitors mentioned here), this agility was slightly surprising to us. The Hyundai dynamicists have incorporated aluminum steering and suspension knuckles, aluminum front link arms and brackets, a sophisticated five-link suspension geometry at all four corners (as on the Lexus), and a simple yet solid all-around Amplitude Selective Damping system.

NHTSA has just awarded the big Genesis a five-star rating, too, in all front and side impact tests. One particular luxo touch that we noted immediately is the substantial laminated windscreen and front window glass. Opening and closing the front windows is an absolutely silent operation à la Rolls-Royce. Genesis is also the first car for sale in the U.S. with major use of fiber-optic technology for onboard systems, reducing the complexity and weight of a traditional wiring harness.

Diesel with Attitude: The Audi A3 TDI Clubsport Quattro

2008 Audi A3 TDI Clubsport Quattro ComceptAudi unveiled another entry in the performance diesel segment it dominates today, showing off a conceptual version of its A3 known as the TDI clubsport quattro. The racy new A3 joins the diesel-burning Audi TT, and of course the wicked R8 TDI Le Mans, offering the thrill of racing power created with the torque-filled goodness of diesel power.

The pert A3 TDI certainly looks the part of a motorsports contender. The car has been presented in a red and white racing-style livery,..
