Hyundai's first attempt to build a serious luxury saloon capable of challenging BMW, Lexus and Mercedes...Dynamically, it feels good by the standards of the American market. Road and wind noise are kept at bay by snug insulation, even at test track speeds of up to 130mph, and it rides well over broken surfaces. The big V8 engine keeps in the background under everyday use, but emits an enjoyable and distinctly upmarket growl when roused. A 5.8 second 0-60mph time and an electronically limited 155mph top speed prove it's no slouch. Suspension feels soft by European standards, and the steering lacks centre-feel in hard driving. But it certainly deserves the right to be taken seriously as a luxury saloon, and the established order should feel distinctly threatened.
