Donkervoort D8 GT To Hit Europe Next Month

Donkervoort D8 GT | Page 2 of 2 | Next>>
Donkervoort D8 GT The new D8 GT has wing-doors and is powered by an Audi 1.8 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine which comes in various states of tuning from 180 to 270 hp horsepower. In comparison with the open D8 version, major changes have been done so that the D8 GT can be seen as a totally new car. The D8 GT comes with larger air intakes for better aerodynamics plus carbon fiber roof and doors to reduce weight.

It rides on 17" light weight wheels while stopping power is provided by specially developed Tarox brakes loaded with new 6 piston alloy callipers and the larger 300mm discs....Donkervoort will make only 50 DB GTs per year with each unit priced at 90,000 euro.

Donkervoort D8 GT in production, sales begin in June

Donkervoort D8 GT | Page 1 of 2 | Next>>
Donkervoort D8 GT When we first laid eyes on the Donkervoort D8 GT back in Geneva in 2007, we couldn't help but be compelled by the minimalist coupe's aggressive styling and performance potential. Now, just over a year since it's initial unveiling, the Dutch specialty automaker has begun production of the D8 GT, with sales beginning in Europe next month.

The GT model finds its inspiration from the original D8, but the changes aren't limited to the addition of a fixed roof. The roof, doors and other components are made of carbon fiber, and extensive use of aluminum along with 14-pound wheels allows the GT to tip the scales at just over 1,400 pounds.

First Drive: Saab Turbo X

2008 Saab Turbo X Driven | Photos | Page 4 of 4 | Next>>
2008 Saab Turbo X On our highway run to the event location, we were impressed with the solid way the Turbo X tracks. The steering is well weighted and informative without being busy. Expansion gaps are mostly heard and not felt, as the suspension swallowed sharp transient impacts with aplomb, and we had a hard time restraining the right foot. Out on the road, the secure ride and tossable handling make the Turbo X a traffic Sabre Jet, and the turbocharged V6 is punchy with minimal lag, making a sound nearly as heavenly as what emanates from BMW's twin turbo three-liter.

A manual transmission SportKombi was next, making us forget the automatic entirely. While the auto is generally good, it's slow-witted compared to the standard, even when shifted by the thumb triggers on the steering wheel....The manual transmission allows fast gearchanges, letting you be in the right ratio to lay down the power exiting a turn. Out on the open road, however, either transmission proves fully satisfactory.

2008 Saab Turbo X Say hello to the Turbo X, a limited-edition 9-3 that pays homage to the 1985 Saab 900 SPG, a classic coupe known for its trademark black exterior treatment, three-arm alloys, and turbo engine.....The result is the best-handling 9-3 to date -- oversteer is more prevalent and easier to maximize, and the overall balance borders on neutral. Moreover, torque steer has been all but quashed.

Of course, there's more to the X than its ebony duds and all-wheel drive. Saab enlarged the four-wheel disc brakes (13.6 inches front, 11.5 rear), lowered the ride height by 0.4 inch, and stiffened the springs and dampers all around. Inside, carbon-fiber accents, black leather seats, and a replica of the 900 Turbo's boost gauge complete the treatment.

Road Tests, First Drive: 2008 Saab Turbo X

2008 Saab Turbo X Driven | Photos | Page 2 of 4 | Next>>
2008 Saab Turbo X The Turbo X marks the debut of Saab's XWD ("Cross Wheel Drive," as the Swedes say it), a fourth-generation Haldex-built all-wheel-drive system that will also be available on garden-variety Saab 9-3s. Unlike previous Haldex systems, the center clutch-pack coupling (which is technically not a differential) no longer relies on wheelspin in order to transfer torque to the rear axle.

Instead, an electrically driven hydraulic pump can preemptively vary the pressure reaching the coupling in order to route torque to the rear, even if all four wheels are stationary. Theoretically, the system can apply 100 percent of the engine's torque to the rear wheels, but this situation is only possible if the front wheels are on wet ice and the rears are on pavement.

2008 Saab Turbo X Well, for 2008 a total of 600 Sport Sedan and SportCombi (wagon) vehicles will make it here to the U.S., all of them in metallic black paint as homage to the original Saab 99 and 900 Turbos, starting at $42,510 and $43,310, respectively.

Both Turbo X models feature an all-aluminum turbocharged 2.8-liter V-6 pumping out a record (for Saab) 280 bhp at 5500 rpm and 295 lb.-ft. of torque between 2150 and 4500 rpm that Saab claims will get you to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 5.7 seconds. There's a choice of a 6-speed automatic or manual transmission, both of which come coupled to the latest Haldex generation IV XWD system (all-wheel drive).

Alfa Romeo CEO confirms SUV production plans, likely to go to U.S.

2010 Alpha Romeo CXover | Photos | Page 4 of 4 | Next>>
Alfa Romeo SUV Rendering This rendering shows that Alfa’s new SUV will likely be styled along the lines of the original Kamal Concept and it’s thought the car could be released in both 3 and 5-door variants. The underpinnings for both vehicles is expected to be based on a revised version of the platform used for the 159 sedan, which means a range of four and six-cylinder engines will likely make the cut.

A flagship model will run Alfa’s familiar 3.2L 24V V6 but with several unique elements to achieve a 250hp output. Other models will include a smaller 2.2L petrol version as well as a highly efficient five-cylinder turbodiesel with 400Nm on tap.

Alfa Romeo says compact SUV will be key model for U.S.

2010 Alpha Romeo CXover | Photos | Page 2 of 4 | Next>>
Alfa Romeo Kamal Concept The CX-over project started life as the Alfa Romeo Kamal concept (pictured) back in 2003 at Geneva, the concept featuring a 250 horsepower, 24-valve V-6 engine and six-speed manual transmission. Alfa's de Meo has said that his company will focus on automatic-equipped, V-6 sedans and SUVs for the Amercian market, making the CX-over a significant addition to the U.S. lineup.

Still, we have to wonder if the rising price of gasoline coupled with new CAFE standards mean that Alfa may be arriving a little late to the SUV game Stateside. Moreover, sporty crossovers were still a fairly new concept back in 2003. By 2010, however, not so much.
